Sinestro
It's safe to say that I did not expect the "War of the Green Lanterns" story to end the way that it did. We often talk about "shaking up the status quo" when it comes to comics. I think it's safe to say that Geoff Johns has done just that.
Sinestro is an interesting character. When he started out he wasn't really anybody. He was just a Green Lantern villain with a yellow ring, a ridiculous mustache, and an absurd set of clothes.
But over time he really has matured into a nuanced character. I'd even say that Sinestro is a more interesting and more complex character than Hal Jordan. And that's what makes giving Sinestro the starring role in the relaunched Green Lantern.
Sinestro vs. the Sinestro Corps. How is it that we're only getting this now?

This...is going to be interesting to say the least. There have been hints, here and there, Geoff Johns is a master at leaving clues in his issues, that take months and months to realize, but I'm enjoying the heck out of this.
Agreed, but I must comment: "more interesting and more complex than Hal Jordan" is not the most demanding standard.
Heh. Are you saying that Hal isn't the sharpest crayon in the box?
Such a wonderful post. Thanks for the share. It was very interesting and informative. Keep posting. I follow you.
Is it just coincidence that Thaal Sinestro looks like Basil Rathbone? I think not. I think he looks like that to remind us about age and treachery trumping youth and energy.
To unpack:
Basil Rathbone, classic movie villain, was really an Olympic level fencer, right?, while Zorro Fairbanks Junior and Errol Robin Hood were SO not, thus we know, deep down, that he only lost those swordfights because the script demanded it. But if he weren't the designated bad guy, if he were suddenly stuck back into, say, the Green Lantern Corps, how much ass could he kick?
How long will it take Sinestro to take down the Yellow AND Red Lantern Corps? About one-fiftieth as long as it would have taken Hal Jordan to do it, I bet.
